Runes are tools used for divination and opening up psychic awareness, they are fascinating ancient symbols. The word “rune” is derived from an Anglo-Saxon word which means “secret,” or “mystery.” They are the legacy of an early writing system that was used for Germanic languages, dating back to around 150 AD. As the legends say they were a sacred gift to mortals and were first given to the Norse God Odin after he wounded himself with a spear and then hung himself from Yaggdrasill, the World Tree for nine days. They are a set of 24 tiles or stones that contain primitive carvings of characters or letters and can be hand painted or store bought. Similar to the Tarot reading these powerful and magical stones called Runes are placed in a spread or pattern of several tiles, and then read. Each symbol has a particular meaning and is interpreted as part of the spread. Inverted symbols also have reverse meanings.
